2012"Carnival Memories" Receives Juror's Award in Cumberland Valley SalonMartin's sepia-toned print, "Carnival Memories", received a special Juror's Award and was one of three prints selected for the 79th Annual Cumberland Valley Photographic Salon, which opens January 28. Only 76 prints were selected from 396 entries for the display at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown, MD. Martin's other two selected prints were "Stadium Steps" and "'Vette Mirror". An awards ceremony and opening receiption sponsored by Conservit, Inc., is scheduled on Sunday, February 12, 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.2011Downtown Frederick Galleries Exhibit 5 Prints in DecemberFive of Martin’s prints will be on display at two different galleries in downtown Frederick, Maryland, during the month of December 2011. At the Market Street Gallery of Frederick’s Cultural Art Center (15 N. Market St.), two of his prints, “Timeless San Marco Piazzetta” and “Quiet Canal at Dusk”, are part of the 2011 Frederick Arts Council’s Members’ Show, which opens December 15 and runs through January 29, 2012. A reception for the show will be held on Saturday, January 7, 5 – 9 p.m., which coincides with Downtown Frederick’s First Saturday activities. Normal gallery hours are Thursdays, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Sundays, Noon – 5 p.m.At the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center (40 S. Carroll Street), two of his prints, “San Maggiore at Night” and “Vicenza Wall Still Life” are part of the Frederick Camera Clique’s Members’ Show, and a third, “Shy Bison”, is part of the DVAEC Members’ Show. Both exhibits will be on display through December 24. Normal gallery hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 5 pm Sunday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Bethesda Gallery Accepts 'Northeast Carry' for November ExhibitAs part of FotoWeekDC and the Bethesda Art Walk, the Washington School of Photography (WSP) hosted "Vision", a Mid-Atlantic Area Camera Club show, in its first floor gallery in downtown Bethesda, Maryland. Martin's black-and-white infrared print, "Northeast Carry, Moosehead Lake, Maine" was one of only 20 prints accepted for the November show. Penn Camera Awards Digital Image 2nd PrizeMartin's digital image, "Lindau Harbor View", received the 2nd place award in Penn Camera's monthly photo competition in September. The monthly theme was Digital Creations and Manipulations. Martin's image was based on an image he made in Lindau, Germany, on Lake Constance and then edited using both Photoshop and LucisImage software. The 2nd place prize was a new Olympus Tough camera.New Frederick Gallery Accepts 6 Prints for Juried ShowFrederick's first photography-only art gallery -- Shereen's Exquisite Fine Art Gallery -- exhibited six of Martin's hand-made prints in a juried show in September 2011. The prints included "Vegas in Blue in White", "San Maggiore at Night", "Monastery Columns", "Parish Window Light", "Cosmedin Window", and "Tribute to Georgia O'Keefe". The gallery is located at 216 N. Market Street in downtown Frederick.Images Now Available as E-Greeting CardsHarmony Wishes, www.HarmonyWishes.com, an electronic greeting card website, has selected 13 of Martin's images for its gallery of customizable e-cards. The subscription-based site says that "Harmony Wishes Art e-cards are online greeting cards that incorporate art-quality photography with a meaningful message and a personal touch."
Members of the site can send an unlimited number of e-cards annually, with customizable messages, borders, backgrounds, and music. Membership is $19.95 per year, but guests can browse any of the galleries at no charge.
Photo Renderings for P. Buckley Moss Paintings For the past several years, Martin has been commissioned to prepare photographic renderings of various historical scenes in the Frederick area to be reinterpreted in original paintings and limited edition prints by famed national artist P. Buckley Moss. Thames Fine Art and Framing commissioned the photographs and offered the resulting Moss artwork in its Frederick gallery, with much of the proceeds going to local charities.
